    4. Hey wait a minute. - in lesson TiB "Lesson 2", @ 1:51 in the video you state that North American Amateur Stations are located in ITU Region 2. - @ 7:04 in the video you asked the same question as a test question. - On the answers to the quiz on your website "The Ham Whisperer" you have listed the answer as "A", (Region "1"). Did I miss something and can't remember, or did you accidentally put the wrong answer in??? - Also in the Answers section upon your "Ham Whisperer" website, you have answers for 13 Questions. However in the video you are only asking 11 questions on the test. What happened to questions 12 and 13 in the video? I'm not being a stickler or a pain in the behind, I'm just curious about the discrepancies. However I do think your training video's are great, and you did a fine job and well done. - Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  5. Andy,

Can't thank you enough for creating and sharing the Technician Class video lessons on YouTube. Just passed the test today after watching your videos last night and this morning (total study time approx. 7 hours).

Aside from a brief (15 minute) glance at Dan's "The No-Nonsense, Technician Class License Study Guide" just before the test, your videos are the only study material I used; they made learning and retaining the information *much* easier than simply reading textbooks.

Though I've already passed (thanks to you), I'm going to buy a copy of "The Ham Whisperer's Technician Class License Course" in gratitude. I encourage other readers who've benefited from your videos to do the same.

    Yours Gratefully,

I'm glad the videos helped. It's amazing how much the exams have changed. I remember by Novice exam very well. It seemed the questions were very much like the General exam questions, minus some of the electronics pieces. The big deal was to take the Technician exam as soon as possible so you could get VHF privileges. Now it is just the opposite. Congrats on hitting the double! 73! -Andy

I want to thank you so very much for helping me pass my Tech exam. It took me 5 days to get thru all the Tech videos and on April 5th, 2011 I took my Tech exam....100% and completed the test in about 15 mins. The next day I received my call sign, KK4BJW, and have loved talking and meeting people from all around the US and world. Thanks again and I hope to one day make contact with you on the radio and thank you in person. -Robby

  21. I'll be look'n for the extra class course and I'll be sure and point people your way. I've talked with what seems like an experienced guy,GUERRILLAGEEK on youtube. He seems to think that the general stuff is beyond his needs, radio stuff being to expensive as well. And he's fine with the Tech lic. What's the reason for taking the other tests. GG seems to have a point. By the way anyone with or getting a vx7 go to GG he's put up some vids on how to use it, there & on his channel.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Mike,
Way back in the day, there were five license classes: Novice, Technician, General, Advanced, and Extra. The Novice Class consisted primarily of HF CW privileges. VHF privileges were in the realm of the Technician Class license. To use voice on HF, you needed a General Class license. The incentive to progress in the license classes was a lot clearer then. If a Ham is happy with just using the VHF and UHF privileges with a Technician Class license, they aren't going to get more by upgrading. However, if a Ham wants to explore DX and to fully interact in activities like Emergency Service, contesting, and QRP operation, a General Class license is a must. The Extra Class license gives a Ham more room to operate on the HF frequencies. As far as expense goes, the nice thing about HF is the equipment is relatively simple and can even be made at home. I bought a 40m CW kit for $25. Also, used equipment can be very cheap. When my parents retired, they sold my entire mint condition Heath Kit station for $35. I'm still upset about that. I've been looking for a VX7 for a while now. I'll have to check out GG's channel. Thanks!

  23. Hey Andy, I have directed about 20 people to you from GA. I studied and actually got fully prepared for my Tech. and General Test while I was driving down the road. Have you heard that one yet lol.

I downloaded all videos to my phone and hooked my phone up to my aux in my cd player and listened/watched in between stops and did practice test while driving by a piece of paper on the arm rest and pasted both test this way lol.

I think that was more of the catch for everyone else wanting to check you out. "If that got passed his via preparation while driving down the road then I know I can pass it with hamwhisperers course."

My question which I have been wanting to know is are you an EXTRA Class Operator and if you are do you know if you are going to do a course for that to?

I am going to keep the flow going and study for that driving down the road to if so.

Thanks! KJ4ZDB !!!Thanks to ANDY !!!

  44. There is a commonly held error on page 143. A "short" or "short circuit" is NOT a broken connection, but rather occurs when a hot wire comes in accidental contact with a neutral or ground wire. Check any good dictionary or electrician's manual.
Also, "vice versa" is spelled wrong on page 65. I am in the process of thoroughly proofreading the Tech book, and will send it to you when I finish.

  48. Andy, do you have any thoughts on creating an iTunes podcast of the Technician Class License Course. Although this sight and YouTube are great resources It could be beneficial to have an alternative means to sync an entire class for study during our commutes. I've noticed that the show; HAM RADIO PODCAST (on iTunes) is out of date and offering their Podcast name up to an interested party.

  77. Just passed my Tech & General this morning.

To all who are waiting on the updated General: Stop Waiting! The questions are close enough that while you may not ace it, you will pass. The reason being is that Andy does a great job explaining the material and helps you actually learn the material.

Do note, if you are memorizing answers, the letters (a,b,c...) will be in different order as well as some slight rewording, but 95% is the same.

    Thanks Andy!

I am enjoying going through all of the Technician Class License Course modules. Are these modules up to date as of December 2012? I am preparing to take my Technician Class test soon.

Just wondering as I noticed the note that the General Class Lincese Course modules are good through June 2011.

  159. Thanks Andy!

All in all, this place is a good place to study. I had some difficulty with the headings you've listed aligning completely with the headings as listed on the several online practice tests - which were supposedly from the same pool (mostly were, a few odd questions on them). Some of your presentations were in other sections of the online practice tests too.

But, I went down today and passed Technician and General without too much fanfare. Some of the audio on your presentations was minimal volume too. Most of them I ran at a reasonable normal volume, but some I had to max out the volume on my computer/YouTube/speaker combination as it was particularly soft.

    Thanks again!

I was on a different site: http://www.amateurradio.com/courses/technician/ but at the end of the first TIA lesson, there were only 11 test questions - I got many of them wrong (usually I am a good test taker). Do you think I could pass this year's exam by studying the outdated questions? Your methods, but not just your methods, really really work. It is also your voice and personality coming through. 172. I used the outdated General class video to study and pass my test. Most of the information is the same but the newer test version has a different organization. With some extra effort these videos will help you get your General certification. Sean K2CRW

  179. Andy, My son (13) and I took your technician course for 1.5 weeks up until june 23 2018, We both tested and past on June 24th, cutting it close to the expiration date. We tried to find the current General Course because we like your style of teaching but i guess we are to late for that one. Just wanted to say thanks.
