Thank you for posting these videos. I am an Extra (your videos helped me with Tech and General) who know zero CW. I made a point to learn from your videos. My question is this... Can you recommend a keyer for beginners? I look online and there are so many of them, that I get dizzy trying to make a good choice. Also, I am teaching a Tech class at my place of work and would like to purchase a practice keyer that does not connect to a radio. If you could answer those two questions for me, I would appreciate it.
Thank you for this. My dad was a HAM and in Civil Defence in the 50's, 60's and 70's and worked for AT&T through till the mid 90's. He setup a tube-set shortwave receiver in my room so I could listen and I dii to the wee hours of morning. I still have his old books, some from the 1940's and the newest only from the 60's. I feel it's time for me to get my license and buy a radio. Thanks to your lessions here, I'm on my way. THANKS! Johnny
thanks for the lessons we have no requirement for morse in australia but want to pursue it for dx and itentifying distant repeater idents. I'm off work for a few weeks and your course will mean I learn something new in that time thanks once again. steve vk3meg
I wonder if there is anything out there that is very, VERY slowed down, even compared to the Random Runs? I've enjoyed the first two lessons very much so far, but I am learning with my 8-year-old, and we're finding that it's a little fast for him. He's learning the letters, but can't quite keep up with the Random Runs, so it's hard for him to practice what he's learning. In the meantime, we're excited about being able to talk about Daddy without his knowing what we're saying!
Youtube has a little gear wheel for settings on the right side of the bar under the video. It sometimes does not appear until the video is loaded. You can speed up or slow down the speed of the video. This might accomplish what you need for your son.
Download from this site. You do NOT need to donate any money. You can select rates from 1WPM-1WPM up to 60WPM-60WPM. I tried putting in 100WPM but it seems to top out at about 60WPM & still remain intelligible. I don't think it will go above about 60-75 WPM, but you can drag it down really slow & put larger/longer spaces between letters. http://www.justlearnmorsecode.com/contribute.html
Thoroughly useful, thank you. I've always wanted to learn Morse since I was in primary school. Communication distilled down to the most elemental level. Thank you very much. I was even able to transmit .... .. to an ex-operator doing a demonstration, he was delighted.
Like the beginning of the course. One Comment and one Obeservation COMMENT: The tone of the key in the lesson, the sound sounded a little flat and even a little like a musical tone. I'm familiar with higher pitched tones on the air. OBSERVATION: listening to Morse Code on the air, I can hear two distinct calls going on out stepping over each other and still "hear" the distinct / unique ryhthm of each unique person doing the keying and hear each as a separate message. *** Thank You 73 chris « javasabe@hotmail.com»
You are a great teacher. I am a 60 year old woman; this is my first attempt at learning Morse Code. I only made two mistakes on all of the Lesson One runs and both were mistaking e's for t's. Looking forward to learning more. It's good for the brain.
Hi Andy: Just received my extra advance call sign AC2QZ, I took your tech, and general courses several times. Your lessons were a great help. Am now going to use your code test course to learn, the Morse Code. Thanks very much for all your work, is greatly appreciated. AC2QZ.
Andy - It would be great if each lesson page included, underneath the video window, links to the previous and next lessons. it would simplify access. (I am sending a link to your page to a ham with several impairments and realized this would be a help for him.) Thanks for your consideration, and much appreciation for your putting this website together!
Not being sarcastic, you don't know how often i need to compliment somebodies tie without saying it outloud (ie. concert) so now i can tap it! only if they understand morse code though
Thank you for this free online course. I am finding it easy to learn at my own pace with the one lesson per day plan. Thanks again for this great website!!! Bill N9WGV
Thanks you for these lessons - they are very helpful! Just curious - what speed are the characters being sent at? With the space between the characters vs the speed of the characters themselves - it sounds like you are using Farnsworth timing? thanks again
Hello All: I was CE3EH in my young years, from 1965 to 1970. I did good QSO's in AM, Morse Code and SSB. But I got too busy with school to get my professional degree and I had other priorities. Now I am retired, living in Canada, and trying to catch up with Morse Code, which I have not practiced for decades. I passed lesson 1 with a 100%, so my self-esteem is high. This looks as a good course. Regards to All, Claudio.
I'm a new ham, tried getting my novice license 1969 but got stuck trying to learn on my own. Last July I past elements 2, 3 and 4. Your video's are really help me learn CW. Thanks de WQ1I
Well done! I'm really enjoying this. My dad was a radioman in the Navy and I was always in awe of how he could do this. I feel a little more connected to him by studying this. And it's fun too!
I need to finish up and have always been disappointed with the training available. This is *exactly* what I was looking for -- I like the graphic character with the sound - not some stupid mnemonic. Allows me to automatically associate the character with the sound. Can't wait to finally bring my proficiency up to snuff!
Just made it to first 0lesson. It's effective and epic as of now. To be honest, it's the way formal unlike most of the other lecturers, technically just the way I wanted. I hope it's as epic as it comments seems to be. Peace :)
In my "golden years," and no longer a sailor, I'm living in an apartment with the typical antenna and QRM issues. So, I'm turning to Morse. I have the ARRL course, and a practice review, but today I found the Ham Whisperer. I tried Lesson 1, and love it! Obviously the real "proof" will be my success on the air. But this seems a GREAT course. So...with a 'whispered' thanks, Lesson 2 awaits tomorrow. 73 all. Steve KJ4ZOY
